FORD BDA

Before the company was founded John worked for Roger Clark for more than 10 years, Roger a Ford works driver became one of Britain's best known rally drivers. John worked on race and rally cars and built Escorts for Ford Motor Company. John and Rita Wilcox pictured with a Lucas Mechanical Fuel Injected BDG engine in 1977. Mike Hall

John and Stan Clark brother of Roger Clark, Stan who was an exceptionally quick race and rally cross driver in his own right. John spent many happy years travelling the country as a mechanic to Stan and to this day have remained friends. John is still building engines for his collection of cars.

Mike Hall, former Cosworth Director and designer of the BDA engine gets together with John and reminisces over old times. Mike shouldered the entire design of the engine as Keith was pre-occupied with F1, this led to Cosworth's first engine to use belt drive to its camshafts. It was based around the Ford Kent cylinder block and combined with four valves per cylinder produced very good gas flow. This set the standard in the 70s which other manufactures took many years to match. The BHP per litre of the BDA is not far short of what can be achieved now with present day technology which is a credit to Mike Hall's design.

Having worked with the twin cam and BDA's from the start. When the company was formed building BDA's was the main source of income. Winning many BTRDA and national rally championships, also on many occasions taking first place BDA on the RAC international rally, John Wilcox soon became one of the countries leading engine builders for BDA's. From rallying to racing the Wilcox BDA has been used around the world in all forms of motor sport. Today with the demand for the BDA type engine the company is now manufacturing and building many new and used engines again, for racing, rallying and historic.
